How To Live Longer

Mankind has asked that question for thousands of years. There is no one simple answer or solution to this question. It is a combination of things that cause certain people to outlive their peers. In this article, we will discuss nine of those reasons.

1. Remain Active

Be sure and get daily regular, low intensity physical exercise. That doesn't mean that you must run a mile or lift weights or do anything strenuous. Just try to remain active and get some low impact exercise each and every day. Walking is the perfect exercise to keep your cardiovascular system healthy and your blood pressure lower.

2. Lessen Stress in Your Life

We people live in a stress-filled world. It is important that you try to "chill out" and take a break from the stress in your life as much as possible. Learn to take a deep breath when your stress level appears to be on the rise and, even better, take a break for a few minutes. Take a short walk, chat with a friend for a few minutes-anything to break the cycle of stress.

3. Eat Less

As difficult as this may be, most people need to eat less. Don't just watch the calories and fat grams that go in your mouth, but also learn to turn away from a meal when you are less than full. Order and serve yourself smaller portions. This will help you maintain a healthier weight.

4. Eat Less Meat

In conjunction with the previous item, this point recommends the consumption of less meat in your diet. Learn to eat more vegetables, whole grains and fruits. These foods items are higher in fiber and antioxidants than meat products.

5. Drink Alcohol in Moderation

There are scientific studies that indicate that drinking alcohol (especially wine) in moderation is beneficial to one's health. There are flavonoids in wine that reduce the inflammation in arteries. Inflammation in arteries has been linked to diabetes, atherosclerosis and Alzheimer's.

6. Find a Purpose for your Life

Everyone needs a sense of purpose, a reason for living. Try to find something you have a passion for-a hobby, a charity to donate your time or money to,  keep in touch with friends and family with whom you love to share your time and feelings.

7. Put Your Family First

People who maintain close ties to their family tend to live longer as they have support (and give support) to other family members.

8. Embrace Your Faith

Even if you do not belong to or attend an organized religion, studies have found that people who believe in a higher being tend to live longer lives.

9. Include Fermented Foods in your daily Diet

Sometimes we are so overwhelmed with modern technology that we forget the benefits of simplicity. Today there are so many genetically modified refined and processed foods polluting our bodies. They were designed to make our lives easier, but that does NOT mean healthier!

Our ancestors were onto something by fermenting their foods to keep them edible for longer periods of time. Our bodies cannot handle the chemicals it takes to keep foods stable/fresh on our shelves for years. I'd much rather have the "good" bacteria from my fermented foods in my gut, rather than subject my body to the harmful toxins in processed foods. It's a "no brainer!"

So if you haven't tried Real Food Real Life's raw, organic fermented probiotics yet, please do-you're going to notice a healthier, happier you, not to mention looking physically better! Educate yourself on what cultured/fermented foods are available (such as miso, kimchi, sauerkraut and kefir, to name a few) and how you can add them into your daily diet. A fun family adventure would be to do a quick Internet search on what fermented foods YOUR ancestors ate! Mine made and ate fermented meats and cheese like salmon and parmesan. :)

Eat Fermented Foods!

Eat Well, Be Well, "Live Longer" :)
